OPENING HOURS:
May and September: every day from 10am to 3pm.
June, July and August: every day from10am to 5pm.
ADMISSION:
Adults: NOK 70 per person
Children (aged 7-15): NOK 30 per person
Family: NOK 150
Group (minimum 10 persons) / retired persons / students: NOK 60 per person
THE OPEN-AIR MUSEUM with more than 30 buildings, covering a time span from the medieval open-hearth cottage to a standard house from the 1980s. You may rent an audio guide on an MP3 player with recorded information in Norwegian, English or German. Personal guiding by appointment.
MUSEUM FARM
The farm has horse and cow, pig, sheep and hens. Every Wednesday in the summer months of June, July and August visitors can see various types of farm work demonstrated.
NATURE TRAILSAND CULTURAL LANDSCAPE with stops to read various types of information, answer questions about animals, useful plants, as well as learning about the cultural landscape.
MUSEUM CAFÉ serving a small but tasty selection of traditional local food. Hot meals are served on Wednesdays in June, July and August.
MUSEUM SHOP with toys from bygone days, special souvenirs, presents, as well as articles for everyday use.
PLAYGROUNDS AND ACTIVITIES Children are encouraged to try their hands on building their own cog-joint cabins, play in the fairy-tale forest, use the water-carrying yoke, saw firewood, walk on stilts, and so on.
PERMANENT EXHIBITS
Agriculture, arts and crafts, old traditions linked to Sundays, family events and church holidays, rural art and textiles, food and drink, hunting and fishing, general store and sea-crofters' village, special exhibits for children and a road history exhibit.
Cheers! The exhibit shows a selection of the museum's fantastic collection of beer beakers and wooden drinking vessels, mugs and bowls, liquor bottles and glass.
Shawl and hijab. Headdresses for women from different cultures and age periods. A thought-provoking exhibit of highly current interest.
SUMMER WEDNESDAYS WITH "MUSEUM FOR CHILDREN", ACTIVITIES AND HOT MEALS.
Every Wednesday in June, July, and August from noon to 4pm we organize "Museum for children" with activities for young children. The program may vary from one day to another and may include driving around in a horse-drawn wagon, feeding the animals, working in the hayfield, making porridge, as well as doing other odd jobs around the farm.
On these Wednesdays we also show traditional handicraft and farm work in houses and on farmyards in the open-air museum from noon to 3pm.
On these summer Wednesdays we serve traditional local food in the museum café.
